The Chrupalla case is becoming increasingly dubious. For a long time, the public prosecutor’s office in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, vehemently denied that there had been an attack on the AfD leader. Similarly, she dismissed reports that doctors had diagnosed a puncture. What’s more, after questioning by the police, one of the treating physicians also partially backed away from the statements in the doctor’s letter. Which immediately raised the question: how did this interrogation go?
The impression cannot be dismissed that the public prosecutor’s office, which is bound by instructions from Bavaria’s CSU Justice Minister Georg Eisenreich, acted politically. In any case, her behavior enabled the media to ridicule Chrupalla three days before the state election. And presented the matter as if he were staging himself as a victim and as if nothing had happened at all.
No sooner are the elections over than the public prosecutor’s office makes a 180-degree turn. In Chrupalla’s case, the agency now concedes, “There was a puncture injury.” So far, she had denied this and had only spoken of a “superficial redness or swelling,” as the “Junge Freiheit” reported in an article behind a paywall.
The prosecution now publicly admits, “This injury was part of the diagnosis in the doctor’s report, not the medical history.” This is exactly the opposite of what she has claimed so far. And with that she gave the impression that the doctor’s letter only spoke of an injury because Chrupalla himself had claimed this, but not on the basis of the medical diagnosis.
The prosecution now also suddenly confirms that there was a blood stain on Chrupalla’s shirt. Regarding the stab wound, the authorities state, “She left blood on Tino Chrupalla’s clothes.” In addition, there was also the admission that it was the blood of the AfD leader himself – an investigation had confirmed this. The agency goes on to say, “Based on current assessment, this blood adhesion likely corresponds with the diagnosed puncture wound.”
According to “Junger Freiheit,” the public prosecutor’s office says it continues to focus its investigation “on the open question of when and in what way this diagnosed puncture wound to Mr. Chrupalla’s right upper arm occurred during the election campaign event at the Theaterervorplatz in Ingolstadt and who caused it.”
Strange choice of words
The formulation “also furthermore” sounds like sheer cynicism – after all, the authority has so far claimed that there is no puncture injury at all. Now she even had to admit that the injury could not have come from an insect bite either.
According to the report, the AfD leader himself answered the question of what kind of agent he might have been injected with and what they were now looking for: “All kinds of substances, mercury, Novichok is certainly among them.” Novichok was the nerve agent used to poison Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny in August 2020.
Chrupalla also brought intelligence agencies into the picture. Literally, he said on the subject, “All substances are being searched for. We can’t rule out which people or services may have made something.”
Chrupalla had previously voiced sharp criticism of the police and public prosecutor’s office in Ingolstadt in “Junge Freiheit”: “It’s a scandal that I have to privately take over some of the work of the investigating authorities in the event of an attack.” He was referring to the fact that he had to visit a pathology practice in Dresden “on his own initiative” to find out what had happened to him in Ingolstadt on October 4.
In fact, there is much to suggest that we are dealing here with a tangible judicial and media scandal. The behavior of the prosecutor’s office shortly before the election is more than strange. Likewise, in this case, the major media have been guilty, at least in part, of news suppression in my eyes. Even now, the prosecution’s about-face and the realization that it was an attack after all is being simmered on the back burner.
A thought experiment illustrates how manipulative this is: Replace the name Chrupalla with Lauterbach or Baerbock and imagine how the media would then act.
Strong accusations
What is particularly outrageous is the hatred and malice that was directed at the victim. First and foremost by Bavaria’s CSU Minister of the Interior, Joachim Herrmann. He had said it was frightening “how infamously and deceitfully the AfD is trying to capitalize on the incidents among its own clientele in the state election campaign, without waiting for the investigations.”
Everyone can judge for themselves who acted “infamously and deceitfully” in the matter.
The phenomenon of “projection” is also interesting in this context. In psychology, this describes the mechanism by which people often tend to transfer their own behavior and ways of thinking to others. In other words, to impute to them exactly what they themselves think and/or do. Psychologists speak here of a “central defense mechanism,” and the “unconscious transfer of affects and impulses to a counterpart.”
