The fact that former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder is not above embarrassing himself should no longer be newsworthy. However, the circumstances surrounding a posh dinner that the Social Democrat and father of Hartz IV spent at Hamburg’s luxury hotel “The Fontenay” are so bizarre that they cannot go unmentioned. According to information of the “picture” newspaper the 79-Jährige had invited on Saturday to an exchange into the two-star restaurant “Lakeside” of the Nobelhotel – thereby already in the apron the guests on the fact pointed out that he would pay only the menu – not however orders beyond that.
What would have been quite proper for a former politician who lives only on his pension seems rather stingy for Schröder, who is estimated to have millions in assets thanks to his involvement with Russian and other companies. A foreign friend wrote to me when he drew my attention to the dinner: “A German chancellor invites you and says: I’ll only pay for your meal. What a provincialism! Below any level!!!”
One may or may not share this harsh criticism – the fact is that Schröder’s conditions led to a scandal on Hamburg’s Outer Alster. And to a police operation. Because one of the guests apparently did not want to keep the agreement about the bill. “According to a police report, the businessman ordered drinks worth 6,117 euros and then refused to pay the bill. The restaurant is said to have immediately informed the police,” as “Focus” writes.
When the alarmed patrol car arrived at 18.59 o’clock at the restaurant, the businessman had long since sought the distance. “Because there is said to have been trouble with the man in the ‘Fontenay’ on several occasions, the 41-year-old is now being investigated for possible fraud,” writes the portal.
The story is remarkable in several respects. Least of all by the fact that the social democrat seeks luxury. He has long been known for this, which is why he was nicknamed “Comrade of the Bosses”. Not entirely new, but nonetheless interesting, is what people he surrounds himself with. A businessman who orders drinks worth 6,117 euros over dinner and then quickly disappears, who has caused trouble several times in a luxury restaurant, is not someone you would expect to be a guest at a former chancellor’s home.
If this former chancellor is not called Gerhard Schröder.
There’s an old German saying that says you can learn from bad luck. In the case of the former chancellor, however, this statement does not seem to apply.
It depends on you – on your support! 1000 thanks!
ZDF has had my deciphering video about Markus Lanz’s methods blocked three times on Youtube. The shot backfired. I uploaded it to the free internet on Rumble. It has been viewed a whopping 6.5 million times. Apparently because the algorithms don’t slow down “critical” content like they do on YouTube. One reader calculated that this meant that more viewers had seen my critical analysis of the program than the program itself. My decrypted video on the ZDF’s diatribe about Hans-Georg Maaßen has also been clicked 6.2 million times on Rumble. That gives you courage! But it also costs a lot of time and energy – in this specific case, a night shift. I am all the more grateful for your support. Without them, my work would not be possible, because I receive neither compulsory fees nor tax millions, nor do I have a billionaire sponsor. For this I am independent!
Currently (again) donations via credit card, Apple Pay etc. are possible – despite the Paypal block: via this link. Alternatively via bank transfer, IBAN: DE30 6805 1207 0000 3701 71. For those who have little themselves, I expressly ask you to keep what little you have. I am all the more pleased to receive support from all those whom it does not hurt.
